Les Italiens de l’Opéra

Les Italiens de l’Opéra was born in November 2016 at Teatro Malibran in Venice, from an idea by Alessio Carbone, then Premier Danseur at the Paris Opéra. Invited to create a gala with no financial resources, Carbone chose to involve Italian colleagues and friends from the Paris Opéra, bringing to life a unique performance entirely interpreted by Italian dancers. What was intended to be a special evening, almost a celebration among artists, quickly evolved into a structured and recognisable project.

Over time, the group, made up of around ten dancers with a varying line-up, has established itself as an internationally recognised project, touring Brazil, Uzbekistan, New Caledonia, Italy, Switzerland and Spain, and taking part in festivals such as Ravello and Taormina. The group has also collaborated with several choreographers, offering space to new voices in contemporary choreography, including Simone Valastro, who presented his first creations within the project.

Although it was created to celebrate the Italian talents of the Paris Opéra, where international dancers are selected with exceptional rigour, the group has gradually opened up to artists of other nationalities, particularly French dancers, broadening its artistic dialogue.

The repertoire reflects the richness of the great Parisian school, ranging from classical to contemporary works. With the participation of guest artists and étoiles, Les Italiens de l’Opéra is today a high-profile project that combines technical excellence with an international outlook.
